POST ROE ACTION ITEMS

FOR MY MED/PREHEALTH FRIENDS:

If you've been feeling completely disheartened by the overturning of Roe, there is still hope and so much we can do!! Here is a list of some ACTION ITEMS:

1. MAKE NO PURCHASES FROM JULY 3-5. I wanted to share this with my Instagram family and hope you will join me in spending ZERO DOLLARS over the next few days, as well as share it with your followers on your story or in a post, so that others are made aware of this movement & can join. Since ~80% of all consumer purchases are made by women, if enough of us do this, we can really make an impact and show the nation women are not to be messed with

2. Write an open letter to your dean to urge your school to continue teaching abortion care as a core part of your curriculum. Click here for a template and get as many students and faculty to sign as possible before sending it off.

3. Become an MSFC member (Medical Students for Choice) or start a chapter at your school if there isn't one already. They offer a ton of ideas, resources and support for activities and raising awareness on campus.

4. The AMSA Abortion Care and Reproductive Justice Institute is CURRENTLY accepting ALL applicants until July 4th.

5. Complete the AMSA Reproductive Health Justice Leadership Program. As a graduate of this program myself, I can’t say enough good things. It is a safe space to learn and be engaged with others in the community who are passionate about human rights. This program takes a deep dive into: the principles of reproductive justice, how to center patients, especially young people and people of color in reproductive health and abortion care, how coverage bans impact abortion access and undermine quality care, diversity and inclusion in the family planning /reproductive health workforce, abortion restrictions impact on maternal mortality, maternal health and how state and federal restrictions on abortion care denies bodily autonomy to pregnant people, and more.

6. Complete an abortion care externship during your third or fourth year of medical school. Below are a few core sites and programs where this can be completed:

   2. RHE externship (as a bonus, MSFC will give you a stipend)

If there's anything that gives me hope during this desolate time, it's knowing that this community is filled with such strong advocates for human rights. Keep fighting the good fight!
